Opportunities

Jamaica Queens Older Adults Will Cherish Your Conversations! Become a Friendly Visiting Volunteer!

Our organization has several client in Jamaica who have interesting stories to share at weekly visits or phone calls. Queens Community House’s Friendly Visiting Program seeks volunteers to provide thoughtful and engaging weekly phone calls to isolated older adults with range of interests, hobbies, religious and political beliefs. Visits can be either in person or via phone.

To become a friendly visitor, you will have to complete an application and some other paperwork, provide two personal/professional references, consent to a background check, interview and then complete a 90-minute training. The process can take two to four weeks. There is short weekly reporting about your visits or phone calls and phone check-ins with the staff every three months. We ask that you commit to at least six months once the right match is found for you.

If interested, email us at volunteer@qchnyc.org.

About us

Queens Community House (QCH) is a multi-site, multi-service settlement house that serves the diverse neighborhoods of Queens. We serve residents of all ages, races, faiths, and ethnicities while supporting the viability of the borough as a whole.

QCH was formed in 1975 (as Forest Hills Community House) to help heal the wounds of a neighborhood conflict. Over four decades, our reach and breadth have grown; today we offer a broad network of comprehensive services at 25 program sites in 11 different neighborhoods in Queens, allowing us to impact individuals, families, and entire communities.
